The city tour of Cusco will give you the opportunity to discover the enigma of this marvelous city and the surrounding archaeological sites. We pick you up from your hotel at 1:15 pm and bring you to the main Plaza de Armas at 1:30 pm, where you will meet you travel mates (in case of shared service). We start by visiting the main cathedral of Cusco where you can observe the colonial architecture and amazing paintings of the Cusqueña school (well known for its religious iconography painted by Cuscqueños) Afterwards we take you to Koricancha (golden place) and Santo Domingo convent. Here is a perfect example of the fusion of Inca and Christian culture. After your tour in the city, we will take the bus and drive to the impresive Inca fortress of Saqsaywoman, where you will be amazed by the rocks used for construction, some of them weigh more than 300 tons. The tour continues with the discovery of the underground temple of Quenqo, (labyrinth) with impressive rock carvings and tunnels carved into the solid rock. This religious temple is dedicated to the worship of mother earth. After a few minutes ride we will see a small fortress of Puka Pucara (red fortress) used as military control entrance gate to Cusco. Walking for few minutes we will arrive at Tambomachay (water temple), temple dedicated to worship the water, fertility and longevity. We return to Cusco at the end of the day around 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, if you want, you can ask your tour guide to stop at one of the souvenir shops on way back.(B,) http://www.encantadaperu.com/en/rooms-services-hotel-cusco
We tour the small towns of the Sacred Valley, including Chinchero to Ollantaytambo. Each town offers its unique interpretation of ancient customs and traditional life. Chinchero is known for hand-dying and weaving fabric; Ollantaytambo is the oldest occupied Incan town. Overnight in Cusco.-(B,L,) http://www.encantadaperu.com/en/rooms-services-hotel-cusco
At 5:45 am we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and transfer you to Awanacancha "The Andean weaving museum". We will see alpacas, llamas, vicuñas in their natural environment and understand how these cameloids were domesticated in the Andes of South America. We will also appreciate different communities' weavers demostrating their ancestral abilities using natural fibers and colors. Next is a visit to the famous and traditional Inca town of Pisac, where you will have 1 hour of free time to enjoy the typical market, which is a great place for taking pictures and purchasing artistic souveniers from local "Piseños" in wood, ceramics, in silver and weavings. Then we have a guided walk tour for 2 hours in the Pisac Inca Citadel, continuing our journey in our private transport through small beautiful towns such as Coya, Lamay, Calca, and Yucay which is part of the famous Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will stop in Urubamba for a delicious Peruvian lunch. After lunch our private vehicle will take us to km 82 (start of the Inca Trail) which takes approx 1.5 hrs. This afternoon we start our fascinating pilgrimage walk to one of the most impresive and magical places in the world: Machu Picchu. During the 28 mile walk, escorted by our expert guide, our Qero's shaman and our cheerful chaskis, all together they will transport you back in time to connect you with ancient Incas' traditions, philosophy and spiritual rituals. Our trek will start at 2,580m with a small climb, but we will be rewarded with superb views of Mount Veronica (Wakaywillka Apu mountain). Following this we have 3 hours for a beautiful gentle walk along the famous Wilkamayo river, also known as the sacred Urubamba river, to reach our first camp at Llaqtapata (2,800m). There, our "Chaskis" from Willoq Community, our great collaborators in carrying all camping gear, will welcome us on our arrival. Our walking times are always approximate depending on weather conditions, group ability and a thousand other possiblities. Approx 9 Kilometers - 3 hours walking. (B/L / D)
Our Chaskis will wake you up with a cup of hot Coca tea, the local medicine for Soroche (altitude sickness) or a cup of coffee. We will explore the Llaqtapata Inca town which has been restored by archaeologists recently. We will go inside this fascinating place and our guide will offer you different theories about its orgins, then we'll return to our campsite for breakfast. By 7.30 am we will start walking through the Cusichaca Cayon following the left route towards Tarayoc, Hatunchaca and Wayllabamba village, then we turn to the right toward Ayapata and Llullucha were we stop for our lunch and relax surrounded by amazing views. In the afternoon we will walk the last 400 meters of ascent to reach Warmiwañuska (Dead woman's pass). You can walk at your own pace, stopping to get your breath whenever you like. You will find your energy returns once you continue down to the Valley of Pacaymayo. Campsite at 3600m. This is the coldest night +2/+4 degrees Celsius (December) -3/-5 degrees Celsius (June). Approx 12 km - 7 hours walking. (B / L / D)
We pick up an Inca stairway this morning and ascend past the small Inca site of Runkuracay. As we reach the second pass, the landscape opens out to afford us spectacular new views to the snowpeaks of the Pumasillo mountain range. We descend to the ruins of Sayacmarca (Inaccessible Town), an intricate labyrinth of houses, plazas and water channels, perched precariously on a rocky spur overlooking the Aobamba valley. The Inca trail, now a massive buttressed structure of granite paving stones, continues along the steep upper fringes of the cloud forest through a colorful riot of orchids, bromelias, mosses and ferns. At the third pass we camp by pinnacles topped with Inca viewing platforms, overlooking the archaeological complex of Phuyupatamarca (Cloud-level Town). (B / L / D)
We'll get up early to enjoy the spectacular morning views; Phuyupatamarca means the town in the clouds so early in the morning it is misty and clouds cover it. After our breakfast we'll pack up our gear and continue following the steps down. Our first stop is at the Inca complex to explore it and learn about the construction tecniques; it's a great place for pictures! Afterwards we'll descend the 2,000 steps to Wiñay-Wayna in the middle of cloud and rain forest vegetation like bamboos and lianes. With luck you will see some varieties of humingbirds and the cock of the rocks "Gallito de las Rocas", the national bird of Peru. Then we will arrive at Wiñay-Wayna and Intipata - both spectacular places to explore. We will profit from some rest time for a shower in this small lodge, as well as an early lunch before continuing on the last part of our journey toward Intipunku (Sun Gate), the principal entrance to Machu Picchu. We will arrive in perfect time to see the tranquility of this magic place and enjoy the sunset. We will still have 40 minutes to walk down from Intipunku to Machu Picchu. Here is the best spot to contemplate the complete harmony that exists here, the footprints of a great civilization ruled by love, kindness and respect of mother nature, the perfect blend of human work and nature. After this amazing time here, we board a bus to Aguas Calientes (30 minutes). Hotel Viajeros will be waiting for us in Aguas Calientes, and we will have time to go to the hot springs before our special dinner. We'll get to bed early for a good night's rest ready for our big day… (B / L / D)
It is an early start to get to Machu Picchu to see the sun rise over this magnificent ancient city! We take the first bus up to the ruins of Machu Picchu and have a fully guided tour of around 2 hours. After the tour you have plenty of time to explore the citadel on your own, and maybe even climb Huayna Picchu or Inca Bridge. Afterwards it is up to you whether you walk down to the town of Aguas Calientes or take the bus back. In the afternoon we take the train back to Cusco/Ollantaytambo. If Ollantaytambo we transfer you back to Cusco in private transportation dropping you off at your hotel. (B / L) http://www.encantadaperu.com/en/rooms-services-hotel-cusco
