Itinerary Overview

Early Morning Departure: Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. We depart around 05:00 AM, driving through the scenic valleys and traditional Andean villages. As the sun rises, witness the beauty of the Peruvian countryside bathed in the morning light.

Breakfast Stop: We’ll stop at a local restaurant in Cusipata to enjoy a nutritious breakfast, fueling up for the hike ahead. Savor the local flavors and prepare yourself for the day’s adventure.

Arrival at Trailhead: After breakfast, continue our journey to the trailhead at Phulawasipata. Here, our trek begins. The path is well-marked, and you’ll be accompanied by experienced guides who will ensure a safe and enjoyable hike.

Hiking to Rainbow Mountain: The trek to Rainbow Mountain is approximately 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) round trip and can take about 3-4 hours, depending on your pace. As you ascend, take in the stunning views of snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and herds of alpacas and llamas grazing in their natural habitat.

Rainbow Mountain Summit: Upon reaching the summit (5,200 meters / 17,060 feet above sea level), you’ll be greeted by the magnificent sight of Rainbow Mountain. The mountain’s vibrant stripes of red, orange, yellow, and green are a result of mineral deposits over millions of years. Take your time to soak in the panoramic views and capture this once-in-a-lifetime moment with plenty of photos.

Exploring Red Valley: After experiencing Rainbow Mountain, those with extra energy and a spirit of adventure can continue to the nearby Red Valley. This extension adds about an hour to your trek but rewards you with equally stunning views. The Red Valley, with its deep crimson hues, offers a stark contrast to the colorful slopes of Rainbow Mountain and provides another spectacular photo opportunity.

Descent and Return: We begin our descent back to the trailhead, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Cusipata for a well-deserved lunch. Enjoy traditional Andean dishes and reflect on the incredible sights you’ve witnessed.

Return to Cusco: After lunch, relax as we drive back to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel, concluding a day filled with extraordinary memories and breathtaking landscapes.
