Amazonas Birdwatching Tour Peru – 7 Days of Avian Wonders

Day 1: Cusco – Bamboo Lodge

Leaving Cusco after breakfast we travel through traditional Quechua communities and through the spectacular eastern ranges of the Andes to the village of Paucartambo, passing snow-peaks and small Andean farmsteads. We will have time here to look around this picturesque village and visit local craftsmen famous for their production of masks used in local festivals. We then ascend to the last pass overlooking the Amazon Basin and begin the breath taking descent from 3500 meters to 1600 meters above sea-level to our comfortable lodge in the orchid laden Cloud Forest. This is a spectacular journey passing cascading waterfalls and multicolored birds along the way. late in afternoon, we'll arrive to our lodge

Day 2: Bamboo Lodge – Hot spring – Boca Manu

After breakfast, continue by road to Atalaya, then board a motorized boat to reach the Amazon basin — part of this Manu Amazon bird tour.Along the river, scan for wide-ranging species: toucans, parrots, raptors, and more, making this a core segment of the Manu birdwatching expedition.Arrive at Boca Manu Lodge in the afternoon. Later, take a guided walk into the rainforest to begin your Amazon birdwatching Peru adventure and observe wildlife and forest birds.
Optional: Night walk to spot caimans or nocturnal birds, adding depth to your Manu wildlife tour., this night we will go to search Caimans. In the evening we will come back to the Lodge for dinner and sleep.

Day 3: Boca Manu – Reserved Zone Of Manu National Park

After an early breakfast, boat upriver deeper into Manu’s Reserved Zone, entering the protected areas for a full Manu National Park bird tour.As you travel, keep watch for macaws, parrots, toucans, and other iconic Amazon species.
Reach your lodge (near an oxbow lake or river bend) in the afternoon, settle in, and prepare for the next day’s exploration

Day 4: Reserved Zone Of Manu National Park

Begin your day with a dawn canoe trip or floating platform on an oxbow lake — perfect for spotting secretive and aquatic species, part of the high-diversity birding Peru experience.
Look for birds like sunbitterns, herons (e.g., Agami Heron), hoatzins, and monkeys along the way.
Later, hike forest trails in terra firme (non-flooded forest) for understory species — antbirds, woodcreepers, and more.
In the late afternoon, relax or take another short birding walk near your lodge. Overnight Cocha Salvador Camp or Casa Matshiguenka Lodge.

Day 5: Reserved Zone Of Manu National Park – Blanquillo Ecological Reserve Lodge

Depart in the morning on a downstream boat ride deeper into Manu’s Amazon. This journey is part of a true Manu birding expedition, offering vast vistas and excellent birding along riverine forest. Arrive at Blanquillo Clay Lick (macaw colpa) in the afternoon — one of the region’s most spectacular wildlife spectacles. Huge flocks of macaws and parrots descend to the clay wall to feed. Observe from a camouflaged platform or blinds in a respectful, non-intrusive way — this is a highlight of many Manu wildlife tours.

Day 6: Blanquillo Lodge – Macaw Clay Lick – Boca Colorado River Bank

Return early to the clay lick for sunrise, when macaws and parrots gather in high numbers to feed — a peak moment of the Manu Amazon bird tour. After the spectacle, explore nearby forest trails with your guides, looking for more canopy species, toucans, cotingas, and raptors. In the afternoon, take a boat or walk along the riverbank, scanning for riverine birds and mammals — a final birding push to maximize your tropical birding in Manu.. After this we will sail down river to Boca Colorado where we are going to spend our last night in tents along the river.

Day 7: Boca Colorado River Bank – Cusco/Lima

After a final morning excursion, depart your lodge by boat and then motorboat / road to Puerto Maldonado. Along the route, keep an eye out for river birds, raptors, and other species you may have missed — continuing the Manu birding tour until the very end. Arrive in Puerto Maldonado around mid-day. From here, you can catch a flight to Lima or Cusco (flights not included).. We will arrive to Puerto Maldonado City around 1:00pm; and from there you can flight back to Cusco or Lima (flight tickets are not included on the price).
