Embark on a breathtaking full-day trek to Humantay Lake, a turquoise jewel in the Peruvian Andes. Hike through stunning landscapes, witness majestic glaciers, and capture unforgettable photos.
Humantay Lake Full Day Trip Our Humantay, it is a small tourquoise glacial lake fed by the melting snow of the Humantay mountain (5967m) and located at 4,261 meteres above sea level.
It aproximately takes 1 hour and 45 minutes climbing up the mountain from Soraypampa (3,820m) which is the 1st campiste of the 5 day Salkantay to Machu Picchu trek.
Our transfer will pick you up very early between 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning. We’ll embark on a roughly two-and-a-half-hour car ride to the town of Mollepata, located in the province of Anta. Here, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast and gather necessary provisions.
After breakfast, we’ll continue our journey for about an hour and a half by car. The road we’ll take is a dirt path (trocha) until we reach the community of Soraypampa, situated at an altitude of 3900 meters (12,795 feet) above sea level. During the trip, you’ll witness beautiful landscapes and the breathtaking Salkantay snow-capped mountain.
From Soraypampa, we’ll embark on a 2 km (1.24 miles) hike. The trail is uphill and will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Along the way, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of snow-covered mountains, stunning natural landscapes, and a diverse range of flora and fauna, until we reach the “Laguna de Humantay” situated at an altitude of 4200 meters (13,780 feet) above sea level.
The “Laguna Humantay” boasts a turquoise color due to the minerals found at the bottom, and you’ll be able to see the sky reflecting in its waters. Fed by the mountain’s glaciers, the lake is considered a natural gem. In addition to marveling at Laguna Humantay, you’ll also be able to enjoy breathtaking views of surrounding mountains, including the sacred Salkantay snow-capped mountain, considered the holiest peak in Inca times, a place of ancient reverence for Pachamama, the Mother Earth.
Once you arrive at the lake, you can take part in a ceremony by placing stones to express gratitude for your visit to this magical place. Our guide will accompany you around the lake and share other interesting facts. After our visit, we’ll descend on foot to the community of Soraypampa, where we’ll board our transport back to Mollepata and enjoy a delicious Andean lunch.
After lunch, we’ll begin the journey back to the city of Cusco. Our tour will conclude at approximately 6:30 in the evening, marking the end of our 1-day hike to Laguna Humantay. !
