Rainbow Mountain & 7 Lakes Trek – 2 Days / 1 Night
Day 1 → Rainbow Mountain + Red Valley → Pacchanta
After breakfast, we begin our second day with a hike into the spectacular highlands surrounding Ausangate Mountain.
The route takes us toward the famous 7 Lakes of Ausangate, a collection of high-altitude lagoons whose colors and appearance change according to the light, weather and surrounding mineral landscapes.
As we walk between the lakes, we will enjoy expansive views of the Vilcanota mountain range, snow-capped peaks, high-altitude valleys and traditional Andean landscapes.
This is a quieter and more immersive experience than a standard Rainbow Mountain day trip. The route allows you to appreciate the wider Ausangate landscape and the dramatic relationship between mountains, glaciers and alpine lakes.
Your guide will help you identify the main viewpoints and explain the geography, local traditions and importance of the surrounding mountain environment.
After completing the 7 Lakes route, we return to Pacchanta for lunch before beginning our journey back to Cusco.

Day 2 → 7 Lakes of Ausangate → Cusco
Your adventure begins early in the morning with hotel pickup in Cusco. We travel south through the Andean highlands toward the Rainbow Mountain trailhead, passing traditional villages, agricultural landscapes and expansive views of the Vilcanota mountain range.
After a breakfast stop, we continue to the trailhead and begin our hike toward Vinicunca, the Rainbow Mountain.
The ascent takes place at high altitude, so we maintain a steady pace and allow time for acclimatization, rest and photography. As you approach the viewpoint, the landscape changes dramatically, revealing the colorful mineral formations that have made Rainbow Mountain one of Peru’s most recognizable natural attractions.
At the viewpoint, you will have time to appreciate the panoramic scenery and photograph Vinicunca, the surrounding Andean peaks and the high-altitude landscape.
We then continue toward Red Valley, a spectacular area characterized by deep red and earthy tones created by the region’s geology.
After exploring Red Valley, we return toward the trailhead and continue by vehicle to Pacchanta, a traditional Andean community located near the Ausangate mountain range.
After arriving in Pacchanta, you will have time to rest and, when included in the confirmed itinerary and local conditions permit, enjoy the community’s natural hot springs while surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery.
