Choquequirao to Machu Picchu Trek 8 Days | Peru Adventure
Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Capuliyoc – Chiquisca
Your Choquequirao adventure begins early in the morning with a private transfer from Cusco toward the town of Cachora. The drive takes you through spectacular Andean landscapes before reaching Capuliyoc, the starting point of the trek.
From Capuliyoc, the trail begins its long descent toward the Apurimac Canyon. As you lose elevation, the scenery changes dramatically, with expansive views of the surrounding mountains and canyon walls.
The first day is an excellent introduction to the physical demands of the route. The descent can be hard on the legs, while the warmer temperatures in the lower canyon make hydration especially important.
After several hours of hiking, you reach your first campsite, where your trekking team will prepare dinner and you can rest for the following day's challenging ascent.

Day 2: Chiquisca – Playa Rosalina – Marampata
Crossing the Apurímac Valley and climbing toward Choquequirao
After breakfast, we continue deeper into the Apurímac Canyon, descending toward Playa Rosalina near the river.
From the canyon floor, the trail begins a demanding ascent toward Marampata, a spectacular mountain settlement overlooking the surrounding valleys and mountains.
As we gain elevation, the scenery changes dramatically. We finish the day at our campsite near Marampata, preparing for the following day's exploration of Choquequirao.

Day 3: Marampata – Choquequirao – Archaeological Exploration
Discover the Lost City of Choquequirao
Today is dedicated to one of the highlights of the entire expedition: Choquequirao Archaeological Park.
We continue toward the archaeological complex and explore its terraces, plazas, ceremonial areas, temples, agricultural sectors, and remarkable stone structures with our professional guide.
Often described as one of Peru's most impressive remote Inca sites, Choquequirao offers a dramatically different experience from Machu Picchu because of its isolated location and the effort required to reach it.
Take time to appreciate the archaeology, surrounding mountains, and extraordinary setting before returning to camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight: Camping
Day 4: Choquequirao – Río Blanco – Maizal
Remote valleys and high Andean landscapes
We leave the Choquequirao area and continue along a spectacular section of the route toward Río Blanco.
The trail passes through changing vegetation and rugged mountain terrain, combining steep descents with demanding climbs.
We then continue upward toward Maizal, a remote high-altitude camping area with impressive panoramic views across the surrounding Andes.
This is a true wilderness trekking day, with few signs of modern development and an increasing sense of remoteness.

Day 5: Maizal – Minas Victoria – Yanama
High mountain passes and ancient mining landscapes
Today's route takes us through some of the most dramatic terrain of the expedition.
We continue toward Minas Victoria, an area associated with historic mining activity, before climbing toward a high mountain pass at more than 4,000 meters / 13,123 feet.
After crossing the high pass, we descend toward Yanama, a traditional Andean community surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery.
This is one of the most demanding days of the trek and requires good physical preparation and acclimatization.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight: Camping
Day 6: Yanama – High Pass – Cloud Forest – Lucmabamba / La Playa
From the High Andes into the Cloud Forest
We continue our journey through the dramatic transition between the high Andes and the warmer cloud-forest environment.
After reaching another high point along the route, we begin a long descent through changing vegetation and increasingly warmer conditions.
The landscape gradually transforms from high-altitude mountain terrain into lush Andean cloud forest.
We continue toward Lucmabamba and La Playa, an area known for its warmer climate and agricultural communities.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight: Camping
Day 7: La Playa – Llactapata – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes
First views toward Machu Picchu
After an early breakfast, we continue toward Llactapata, an important archaeological site offering a remarkable perspective toward the Machu Picchu mountain region.
From Llactapata, we descend toward Hidroeléctrica.
From here, we continue toward Aguas Calientes, either by walking along the railway route or using the available train option, depending on the arrangements for your trek.
After several days of remote trekking and camping, we arrive at Machu Picchu Pueblo, where you can enjoy a comfortable hotel stay and prepare for the following morning's visit to Machu Picchu.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight: Hotel in Aguas Calientes
Day 8: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Sunrise at Machu Picchu
