Huayhuash Trek Peru: An 8-Day Journey Through the Cordillera Huayhuash
The Huayhuash Trek 8 Days is one of Peru's premier high-altitude trekking adventures. Located in the northern Peruvian Andes, the Cordillera Huayhuash is famous for its dramatic snow-covered peaks, turquoise glacial lakes, remote valleys and challenging mountain passes.
Unlike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, the Huayhuash Circuit is primarily a wilderness trekking experience. The focus is on spectacular mountain scenery, high-altitude adventure and the feeling of traveling through a remote Andean landscape.
During this 8-day Huayhuash Trek from Huaraz, you will hike through a spectacular chain of valleys and mountain passes, including the scenic areas around Mitucocha, Carhuacocha, Huayhuash, Elefante, Tapush and Jahuacocha.
The route also provides exceptional views of some of the Cordillera Huayhuash's most recognizable peaks, including Yerupajá, Siula Grande and Jirishanca.
Because the route remains at high elevation for much of the journey, this is a serious trekking expedition rather than a casual hiking tour. Good physical preparation and proper acclimatization are essential.
With experienced local guides, professional camp support, meals and pack animals transporting your main luggage and equipment, you can concentrate on the trail, the mountains and the extraordinary landscapes of the Peruvian Andes.

This is classic high-altitude trekking in Peru: remote, challenging and surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.

After crossing the pass, we descend toward the remote Huayhuash valley and our campsite.
Day 7 — Gashpapampa → Yaucha/Puka Puka Pass → Jahuacocha
Hiking: approximately 6–7 hours

Highest point: approximately 4,800–4,900 m
Camp: Jahuacocha, approximately 4,050–4,100 m
One of the most rewarding days of the Cordillera Huayhuash Circuit.
We cross another spectacular high pass before descending toward Jahuacocha Lake, surrounded by some of the range's most impressive peaks.

Hiking: approximately 4–5 hours
Highest point: approximately 4,300 m
