The official online ticket platform is operated by the Peruvian government through TuBoleto, the Ministry of Culture's official ticketing platform.

The official government guidance also requires identification information such as a passport, DNI, or foreign resident identification, depending on the traveler.

⚠️ IMPORTANT

Do not buy your Machu Picchu ticket from unofficial resale websites or individuals.

Machu Picchu tickets are associated with a specific visitor and entry conditions. Buying from unofficial sellers creates unnecessary risks and can result in problems at admission.

🎟️ 2. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE ONLINE TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT?

This is where many travelers become confused.

The government also provides a separate in-person allocation of up to 1,000 tickets per day at the official ticket office in Machupicchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes).

These tickets are not simply another online inventory that appears after the online tickets disappear. They are specifically allocated for in-person purchase.

The official rule states that these tickets must be purchased personally and in person.

MOST IMPORTANT:

An in-person ticket purchased in Machupicchu Pueblo is for admission on the following day.

This changes how you need to plan your trip.

3. YOU CANNOT COUNT ON GETTING A TICKET FOR THE SAME DAY

This is one of the most important corrections travelers should understand.

If you arrive in Machupicchu Pueblo today and want to use the in-person ticket system, you should not plan on buying a ticket and entering Machu Picchu later that same day.

According to the official Ministry of Culture information, the in-person ticket allows admission the day after purchase.

DAY 1.-Arrive in Machupicchu Pueblo → purchase the in-person ticket.

4. THERE IS NO GUARANTEED WAITING LIST

Travelers sometimes ask:

“Can I put my name on a waiting list if Machu Picchu is sold out?”

Do not plan your trip around a waiting list.

The official system provides the online ticket allocation and the separate in-person allocation. The official in-person system does not operate as a conventional waiting list where you register and wait for someone else to cancel.

Don't wait for someone to cancel.

Don't assume a sold-out date will automatically reopen.

The number is limited.

The tickets must be purchased personally.

And the official information states that the ticket purchased in person is valid for the following day, not the same day.

Therefore, if your trip is short, do not deliberately wait for the 1,000 in-person tickets.

13. HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD YOU ALLOW?

If you are relying on the in-person allocation, you should build your itinerary with at least one additional night in Machupicchu Pueblo and enough flexibility to accommodate the following-day admission.

For example:

OPTION A — RECOMMENDED

Day 1: Arrive Machupicchu Pueblo
Day 2: Machu Picchu
Day 3: Return to Cusco

This gives you a much safer structure.

OPTION B — RISKIER
